Help a Penguin Take Flight in Pengy Has a Dream

Help a Penguin Take Flight in Pengy Has a DreamHelp a Penguin Take Flight in Pengy Has a Dream

Pengy Has a Dream ($2.99) by h8games is an endearing infinite flyer about a small penguin with big dreams. If you loved other endless runner games like Tiny Wings, Alto’s Adventure, and even Ski Safari 2, and you can’t resist cute animals like me, then you’ll want to have Pengy Has a Dream in your iOS game collection.

When Apple first launched the App Store back in 2008, I remember one of the best game genres for the platform at the time was the infinite runner, especially when you had true gems like Canabalt. Over the years, we had more and more infinite runners with different variations, but they were all pretty much the same — get as far as you can to get a new high score. The charm of the endless runner has been worn down in recent times, from what I’ve noticed, and they definitely aren’t as popular as they once were. However, after having a break from the genre, I think it’s nice to come back to it every now and then, which is why I was drawn in to Pengy Has a Dream when I saw it on the App Store. For what it’s worth, the game does not disappoint for your quick mobile gaming fixes.

Help a Penguin Take Flight in Pengy Has a DreamHelp a Penguin Take Flight in Pengy Has a Dream

Visually speaking, Pengy Has a Dream is gorgeous with a mixture of polished modern graphics that are somewhat reminiscent of low-poly design aesthetics due to the jaggedness of some visual elements. And because the game is about a penguin and his dreams, everything looks rather cartoonish and whimsical, which only adds to the charm. The colors in the game range from soft pastels to muted earthy tones to bold and vibrant hues, all of which are rather appealing to the eyes when you think about it. The lighting and shadows are also done nicely, giving the game much more depth than what shows up on the initial surface. There are animated cutscenes in Pengy Has a Dream that are done rather well, and are fun to watch as they tell players about how Pengy explores his options for making his dreams come true. Animations in the game are buttery smooth and fluid, so I had no issues with lag on my iPhone 7. A playful jingle serves as the game’s soundtrack, and while it does get a bit repetitive after a while, it still adds another nice layer of charm to the package. The sound effects are adorable as well, as you get to hear Pengy himself let out little squeaks of happiness as he takes flight. The developers did a pretty great job with the visual and audio design of Pengy Has a Dream, considering that it’s their first App Store release.

Since the game is an infinite runner (or in this case, a flyer), there’s only one game mode and the objective is as clear cut as they come: get as far as you can with Pengy before you touch the ground and then it’s game over. Your score is dependent on how far you manage to “fly,” and there are a handful of different goals that you can attempt to do to keep things interesting. These objectives will be shown in the bottom left corner of the screen as you play, so you can easily keep track of your progress to completing them (three are shown at a time). Additionally, after you reach certain thresholds, you also unlock different wardrobe pieces for Pengy, giving him a fresh new look whenever you play.

Controls in Pengy Has a Dream are intuitive and responsive. While they’re pretty straightforward, it does take some time to practice and master them if you want to be efficient at the game and get the best possible score. In case you didn’t already know, Pengy is a penguin and we all know penguins can’t fly. However, penguins can slide on ice, and that’s exactly how Pengy plans to take flight to achieve his dreams. Players will draw ice on the screen with their finger, and when Pengy lands on these ice slicks, he slides and then will fly off. You repeat the process of drawing ice to get him as far as you can while exploring different landscapes that he’s never seen before. But keep an eye out on that bar at the top of the screen, as it tells you how much ice you can draw — if the gauge is empty, you’re out of ice and need to collect snowflakes to refill your ice supply, so watch out. Keep your eyes peeled for ice slicks that are already on the ground, though, as he can slide off of those as well, and even use ramps and trampolines to gain some extra momentum. However, the moment Pengy touches the ground or snow, then that flight ends, so try and keep him in the air as long as possible!

While I’ve only started playing Pengy Has a Dream this morning, I’m finding the experience to be rather enjoyable so far. I know that infinite runner style games have gotten a bit tiresome over the years, but I feel like Pengy brings in a unique gameplay concept that makes it a bit more challenging than the typical infinite runner, since you only have a limited supply of ice to get you as far as possible. It requires a bit of practice to get good at this game because of the resource management, but it’s still fun and a great gem to play for quick game sessions. Plus, the delightful cartoon-style graphics are fun to look at as you play, the sounds are soothing, and the controls are perfectly optimized for touch screen devices. Pengy Has a Dream is a great addition to anyone’s mobile game collection.

I recommend Pengy Has a Dream to anyone who is a fan of cute animals and intuitive quick-play games. You can find Pengy Has a Dream on the App Store as a universal download for your iPhone and iPad for just $2.99. There are no in-app purchases.

Keeping track of your medical history can be a daunting task, especially if you suffer from a chronic condition that requires you to to visit the doctor frequently.

Technology is advancing rapidly in the way of making your medical records readily available to you, but luckily there are ways to keep information at your fingertips.

My Medi Recs is a highly comprehensive medical record tracking app for iPhone that’s also incredibly easy to use.

Developed by FNJ Software, this app was specially designed for sufferers of rare or complicated medical ailments.

Concept and Functionality:

Whether you prefer comprehensive doctor’s notes, a handwritten journal, or other means of medical tracking, keeping everything together and organized can be difficult and tiresome. My Medi Recs was created out of necessity by a patient for patients as a way to keep tabs on treatments.

As stated earlier, My Medi Recs is incredibly easy to use and navigate. I really like the fact that the app puts everything on one menu.

This makes it very easy to locate specific sections so you can show a doctor or take notes. When it comes to entering and tracking medical records, you can be as vague or as specific as you like.

Personally I think you should take full advantage of everything the app offers in terms of tracking allergies, doctor information, diagnosis notes, etc.

It might take you a little while to get everything entered into the app once you download it, but it’s time well spent.

My Medi Recs iPhone App

From tracking emergency contacts to being able to add photos to diagnosis notes, My Medi Recs has pretty much everything covered.

I couldn’t think of a single thing that it was lacking in terms of record-keeping, which is pretty impressive.

The well designed medical records app even includes a place for you to store links and other information pertaining to any of your ailments.

People who suffer from chronic conditions often spend a lot of time researching them, and I think it’s very helpful to be able to keep links and documentation in one spot.

Value:

My Medi Recs is available to download from the App Store for $9.99 and is designed for iPhone.

The price may seem a bit high at first, but as the developer notes, “A percentage (20%) of all profits are given to FMDSA and Scleroderma- therefore we, FNJ Software, would like to thank you for helping FMD and Scleroderma sufferers.”

In the end it all boils down to what you think the app could do for you. I do wish users could access a trial version to see if it’s right for them, but it’s a small price to pay for keeping all of your medical data in one spot.

My Medi Recsmedi_recs.jpg requires iOS 10.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Sitrion ONE Is an Incredibly Powerful Business App and Service

Great software is just as important to a business as its employees. Without a central hub for scheduling, communications, and payroll, it can be incredibly easy to lose track of everything.

Sitrion ONE is an incredibly powerful internal communications system for businesses big and small.

Created by Sitrion, Inc., this service makes it easy to make sure employees and management are on the same page.

Concept and Functionality:

Gone are the days of physical memos, printed handbooks and manuals, and paper punch cards. More and more businesses are taking the brave leap forward into the realm of all-in-one solutions like Sitrion ONE.

Instead of having a bunch of different systems to manage things like time clocks, scheduling, and documents, it’s much easier to have everything together in one place.

Sitrion ONE has tons of features, but it’s incredibly easy to use. I really like the fact that the app almost feels like social media for work thanks to the central hub. This is where the latest company updates, shift swap requests, and other announcements appear.

It’s easy to think that an app with so much going on would be clunky and difficult to use, but Sitrion ONE features seamless navigation, so employees and managers won’t have any problems getting to where they need to go.

Sitrion ONE iPhone App

Covering everything Sitrion ONE offers would take quite a bit of time, but it’s important to know that the app and service will definitely function as the heart of any human resources department.

With the touch of a button, employees can easily clock in or out of their shift, see their work schedule, track work-related expenses, and request time off.

The service goes beyond timekeeping by allowing employees to communicate with managers directly, even letting them submit questions or share great ideas with the rest of the company.

Value:

Sitrion ONE is available to download from the App Store for free, but you’ll need to have a valid corporate email address in order to use the service. This requires your company to have Sitrion ONE set up.

Overall, Sitrion ONE is an incredibly useful app for anyone whose workplace utilizes the service. Even if your company isn’t using advanced HR software, it’s definitely worth considering.

Rotate and Spin Your Way Through the Puzzling rvlvr

Rotate and Spin Your Way Through the Puzzling rvlvrRotate and Spin Your Way Through the Puzzling rvlvr

rvlvr. (Free) by The Frosty Pop Corps Inc. is a whimsical puzzle game about rotating rings that will leave you scratching your head, but in a good way. If you enjoyed recent games like Topsoil, Polycolor, and KAMI 2, then rvlvr is another fine gem to add to your collection.

Let’s face it — life gets pretty stressful for many of us, and sometimes we just need a break from reality and all of the crappiness that it may bring us. We all have our own ways to deal with stress, and my preferred method involves diving into a variety of video games to take my mind off of things. When I have a long day, I prefer to just sit down and relax with some relaxing puzzle games, and while it feels like I’ve played the majority of what the App Store has to offer in this regard, I can’t help but be on the lookout for more. When I saw rvlvr on the App Store, I was definitely intrigued, because this is not your typical puzzle game. After spending some time with rvlvr, I can say that it does not disappoint if you’re in the mood for a nice puzzle to “chillax” to.

Rotate and Spin Your Way Through the Puzzling rvlvrRotate and Spin Your Way Through the Puzzling rvlvr

In terms of visuals, rvlvr has a nice simple and clean aesthetic to it that fits in well with the popular minimal trend these days. The game features basic geometric shapes (circles and dots) that are the main focus on the screen, as there are no cluttered menus, buttons, or text that get in the way. The color palette in rvlvr is pleasing on the eyes with the creamy off-white background and soft yet vibrant hues of the rings and dots. There’s a mostly flat design going on, but the rings themselves feature a bit of depth to them because of the slightly angled perspective and shading of the rings and buttons. Animations are smooth and fluid with zero lag on my iPhone 7. The playful soundtrack is a delight to listen to as you play, and there are charming sound effects when you successfully complete a puzzle. Overall, Frosty Pop Corps has made a tastefully simple puzzle game in terms of visual and audio design.

Like many other puzzle games before it, rvlvr is level-based, and at the moment the game claims to have thousands of levels available for players, so it provides you with enough content for a good while. The game is fairly linear, as you’ll be tasked with going through each puzzle one-by-one in chronological order, though there is the option to skip a level by watching an ad. Unfortunately, though, due to the vast amount of possible puzzle combinations, there’s no way to go back to a previous level that you’ve already solved. This shouldn’t be a problem for most, but if you liked a particular puzzle, then you’re out of luck once you solve it. The goal of rvlvr is simple enough: just rotate the rings until the dot pattern matches the one that is shown at the top of the screen. It sounds easy enough, right? And while it starts off that way, players soon learn that things can get particularly tricky as you get further along.

Controls in rvlvr are easy and intuitive enough for anyone to understand. Each puzzle is composed of multiple rings that feature dots inside of them. You can only rotate one ring at a time, and to pick the one you want to spin, just tap on the one you want to rotate with the buttons in the bottom left and right corners. Once the dots are overlapping with another ring, you can tap on it to control that ring, and just repeat the process until you match the dot pattern at the top. Since there are no time limits or move restrictions, you can take as long as you need to in order to solve a single puzzle.

Rotate and Spin Your Way Through the Puzzling rvlvrRotate and Spin Your Way Through the Puzzling rvlvr

Since rvlvr is a free game, there will be some occasional ads that will be shown after several levels. Fortunately, the game is not too obtrusive with them, as they only show up once you complete a puzzle. And if you want to skip a level that is too difficult for you, then you’ll have another ad to watch. However, the game does not have any annoying banner ads so it’s not too bad. If you don’t like being shown an ad after every handful of levels though, you can remove ads and have unlimited skips with the $1.99 premium upgrade that is available through in-app purchase.

I’ve only started rvlvr today while perusing the App Store, but so far I’m finding it to be a pleasant experience. The minimalistic visuals are eye-catching and pleasing, the music is immersive and the sound effects are fun, controls are simple, and the puzzles themselves are rather challenging and a good way to pass the time. I honestly don’t mind the occasional ad, and having the option to skip levels is rather nice. I think the game is worth the few bucks to get rid of ads, honestly, since there are literally thousands of levels.

I recommend checking out rvlvlr if you’re looking for a calming but stimulating puzzle game to keep you occupied this weekend. You can find rlvlr on the App Store as a universal download for your iPhone and iPad for free with in-app purchase for ad removal and unlimited skips. There is also an iMessage sticker pack.

Ever Knight is Good Old Fashioned Hack-n-Slash Fun

May 03, 2017 by RSS Feed

Ever Knight is Good Old Fashioned Hack-n-Slash FunEver Knight is Good Old Fashioned Hack-n-Slash Fun

Ever Knight ($0.99) by Kyle Barrett is an infinite hack-n-slash arcade game that will keep you busy for quite some time. If you enjoyed some recent games like Tavern Guardians and even Soul Knight, then you’ll like what Ever Knight brings to the table.

Whenever I’m under a bit of stress, which seems to be rather often these days, I enjoy losing myself in some gaming time. Though my usual preference is to relax with games, sometimes I just need to take out my stress with some fast action, and for this, there’s nothing better than hack-n-slash arcade games. It’s always fun to chase after high scores, but just seeing the intense battles and fallen foes you leave behind can be rather satisfying. It’s been a good while since I last picked up a decent arcade hack-n-slash game, but when I saw Ever Knight on the App Store, I was intrigued and had to give it a try for myself. For what it’s worth, Ever Knight does not disappoint.

Ever Knight is Good Old Fashioned Hack-n-Slash FunEver Knight is Good Old Fashioned Hack-n-Slash Fun

Visually, Ever Knight looks like a nice mash up combination of both retro and modern graphics, since some parts like the text are pixelated, but the character sprites for your character and enemies appear sharp and crisp. Everything is nicely detailed as well, from the unique designs of the various enemy types to the fine textures and coloring of weapons and armor. The dungeon floor, though, always looks the same and is kind of bland, even with the different colors that it may appear as for each run. The animations in Ever Knight are fairly smooth and fluid, though it may feel a bit jagged since you move one space at a time. There’s also a heavy metal soundtrack that should get your blood pumping for the action, though I did find that it gets repetitive after a while. The sound effects are fun to listen to while you play though, but some may find them to also suffer from the same problem.

There’s only one game mode in Ever Knight, but it’s all you need for a game such as this one. The game is an infinite hack-n-slash where you just go through a dungeon that is filled with hordes of enemies and see how far you can go before you die from a single blow from these powerful foes. The objective is simple: get as high of a score as you can by getting as far as you can, while dispatching any foes that stand in your way. While it’s fun to strike down the enemies, the main way to get points is by meter traveled, so focus on getting around enemies if you can for maximum efficiency scoring. However, enemies can drop gold coins, which you will want for upgrading your character’s weapons, helm, and armor.

Controls in Ever Knight are super simple and intuitive, but you will still want to be careful with how fast you swipe, because small mistakes will cost you in this game. To attack, just tap on the screen. This also serves as your main method of moving forward. You can also swipe horizontally to move one space to the left or right, and doing this also means you attack as you go. It’s important to know where to position your knight to attack, because some foes, such as spearmen, cannot be attacked from the front, and swordsmen will strike you if you stay still too long. As you get further into the round, you’ll discover many more enemies in your way, and new kinds of foes that have different attack patterns and defenses that you have to get around. Sometimes you’ll also find various colored diamonds on the battle arena — picking these up will grant you a special power that activates upon pickup, such as protective shields, or you can use special attacks with a long press on the screen. And watch out while you’re on the edges of the screen — if you “fall off” the edge, meaning that you are no longer visible on the screen, then you die.

Ever Knight is Good Old Fashioned Hack-n-Slash FunEver Knight is Good Old Fashioned Hack-n-Slash Fun

Once you have enough coins for some upgrades, you can tap on the button with your knight shown in the box to view the store. There’s a wide variety of weapons, helms, and armors to choose from, and the game provides you with a clear and accurate description of what each one does. After you get the hang of things, it’s easy to acquire coins, and once you start to get upgrades, the game becomes much more fun and addictive because of the effects of each piece of loot that’s available to you.

While the controls are simple enough to understand, I did find that sometimes the game would not register my swipe or tap properly, causing me to either move too much or go in a direction that I wasn’t planning on doing, which led me to some untimely deaths. So while the controls work most of the time, sometimes it does feel a bit clunky and should be better streamlined — hopefully the developer can optimize the controls in a future update so that they are more responsive. Otherwise, Ever Knight is a perfect little action arcade hack-n-slash game that takes my mind off reality for a bit and lets me escape for a brief amount of time. The graphics are amazing, the music is fitting (though repetitive), and the gameplay is simple, challenging, and addictive. On top of it all, there are no in-app purchases, so this game is based entirely on skill.

I highly recommend giving Ever Knight a try if you’re in the mood for a brutal hack-n-slash arcade game to take your mind off of things. You can find Ever Knight on the App Store as a universal download for your iPhone and iPad for just $0.99. There are no in-app purchases.
