Once in awhile, an interactive story app comes along that you can’t wait to share with your children. Today we’re sharing with you just such an app.
Stampy The Wizard is a wonderful interactive storybook app that’s both educational and a fun adventure for your kids.
Concept and Functionality:
From the moment you start the app Stampy The Wizard and The Lost Wand, from Red Chain Games Ltd., engages you with an upbeat tune and a “claymation” type illustration that is very warm and inviting.
On the first page there are 4 options: turn Words or Voice off (both on by default), Read & Play, and Read.
If you select the “read” option the page will turn and the first page of the book is read to you. Tapping the right arrow moves you to the next page. One aspect of the reading we like a lot is that as the text is read the words are shown with a moving highlight so your “pre-reader” can easily read along with the narration.
In Read & Play mode the storybook becomes a fun interactive experience. The alarm clock rings, the bird chirps, a frog that croaks, and more.
A nice touch is that if you touch the puzzle piece in the corner you get to complete a jigsaw puzzle of the storybook scene that seems perfect for little ones.
Moving along you continue with the story plus you get little games to play, like moving Stampy’s clothes to help him get dressed.
You then direct Stampy to look for his missing wand by choosing the image of various people in the countryside, each with its own page, story, and a little tapping game.
Features:
Stampy The Wizard has a few extra features that make it a fun and engaging interactive storybook.
For example, there are the neat jigsaw puzzle minigames that requires you to complete the scene. Fitting the pieces is not very exact so it seems young kids shouldn’t find it too difficult.
In addition to a fun ebook, Stampy The Wizard multiple reading modes. You can read it yourself, listen to it without seeing the words, or listen to the narration and follow along with the highlighted text. The lets you use the app in whichever way is best for your child’s reading level.
Value:
Stampy The Wizard is available to download from the App Store for $1.99 and is universally compatible with iPhone and iPad. We suggest using it on an iPad but it works fine on an iPhone as well. Plus there are no ads of any sort and nothing for curious fingers to access by mistake.
Not only is the story fun and educational, but it’s also beautiful to look at and experience. If your child is ready for a bit of reading, we think this is an excellent ebook to add to your collection.
Stampy The Wizard requires iOS 8.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
