Facebook Messenger Testing Reactions and Dislike Button

Facebook Messenger Testing Reactions and Dislike Button

March 06, 2017 by RSS Feed

Facebook added Reactions to its standard status updates awhile ago now, so the company is bringing the faces to another one of its services.

Facebook Messenger is currently seeing limited testing of Reactions for conversations, as reported by TechCrunch. It works in a similar way to status updates: The user simply has to hover over the message they want to react to, wait for the emoji to pop up, and then select the one they want to use.

The list contains a thumbs up, to like the message, as well as emoji for love, amazed, sad, angry, and laughter. There is also a new addition, one of the most oft-requested reactions to Facebook status updates for years now: a dislike option. This is showcased in a thumbs down emoji.

Facebook has made it clear in the past that it doesn’t foresee a future where the dislike option is available for status updates, and this new dislike option in Messenger is seen simply as a way to quickly say “no” to something. So, if you’ve been waiting for the dislike button to show up on Facebook proper, it still doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon.
