Apple’s free app of the week: hocus

Apple’s free app of the week: hocus

August 04, 2016 by macjeff

Apple on Thursday updated its App of the Week promotion with the game hocus. This means from now through next Thursday, you’ll be able to pick up the minimal puzzler for both iPhone and iPad for free—saving you $1.

Hocus is described as a perspective illusion puzzle game. Players are tasked with moving a red cube through a maze of gray beams—very similar to Monument Valley. There are 85+ levels, and you can even design your own.

From the App Store Editors’ Notes:

At a glance, hocus doesn’t look very complicated. You swipe to move a red cube along a latticework of plain gray beams. But don’t let the minimalist visuals fool you—the game’s intelligent, abstract puzzles force you to look at things in a new way, like a cubist translation of Monument Valley. As you progress, the levels quickly get complex. But the peaceful music and crisp design make spending time in its world a richly rewarding experience.

And here’s a video of the game in action:

Hocus is available in the App Store for free.
