Looking to pass some time this weekend? iDB has you covered. The latest edition of our Apps of the Week roundup features some great apps and games for you to check out, including an intelligent email client, an app for polling your friends and family, and a pop culture news aggregator. And of course we’ve got two great new games you won’t want to miss.
Notion is an email client that promises to add ‘intelligence’ to your inbox. This isn’t a brand new app, but it recently received a big 2.0 update with a lot of improvements. The main selling point of the client is that it learns from your behavior so it can do things like prioritize messages. There are far too many features to go over here, but if you’re in the mood to try out a new email app, this looks like a good one. Notion is available for free.
Owlie is THE app for asking questions. Use it to write and post a question, share it with your friends and family, and then view their responses. You can make questions single or multi-choice, set a timer for your question to expire, and much more. Poll your friends on where to grab dinner or ask your family where you should go on an upcoming vacation. There are several apps that do this in the App store, but if you’ve never tried one or are looking for a new one, Owlie seems worth checking out. This app is available for free.
Say hello to ZIG, a way for the obsessed to embrace their obsessions in one place. The app scans who and what you follow on social media, collects real-time content from hundreds of websites based on that data, and creates a personalized feed that is curated uniquely for you. There is definitely a pop culture vibe here, with a particular focus on celebrity news. So if that’s your thing, this app is definitely worth trying. ZIG is available for free.
That’s right folks, the popular desktop game is now available on iOS devices. For those unfamiliar with the title, Mini metro is a game about designing a subway map for a growing city. Draw lines between stations and start your trains running. Keep your routes efficient by redrawing them as new stations open. Includes 11 cities, 3 game modes and daily challenges. This is a must-try for any puzzle/simulator fan. Mini Metro is available for $4.99.
I don’t typically like including major free-to-play titles in our weekly roundup, but what better way to get ready for Halloween than a new Plants vs. Zombies title? PvZ Heroes is now available world-wide, and it brings about another epic battle of doom and bloom. Embark on a journey to discover new characters and confront mighty opponents along the way. And, for the first time ever on mobile, play as either plants or zombies. It’s the lawn of a new battle! Be wary of expensive IAPs, but otherwise enjoy! Plants vs. Zombies Heroes is available for free.

You’re presented with a collection of 20 random letters, which must be used to create valid words before the time runs out. Every four valid words created, the required length goes up by one. The game starts off at three letters and maxes out at six. Also, each word begins with the last letter of the previous word, adding a little bit of strategy to the game. 4word includes a free play mode and a variety of power-ups to utilize.
Outland is a collection of 20 time-lapse videos that will take you on a space journey. The collection includes everything from the winds of Jupiter to the ISS flying over Earth to the liftoff of ExoMars 2016. Each time-lapse video includes serene background music, a short description, and a date and time overlay. It’s best if you can hook your device up to your TV to truly enjoy the experience.
Today only: Remove ads free of charge! Simply access the store and tap on the $1.99 “Remove Ads” option. There may still be a price being shown within the store, but when you’re asked to confirm your action it should show up as free. Split Masters is easy to learn but impossible to master. Your job is to make it as high as possible by doing the splits. Tap to cause one foot to leave the wall, and tap again to push your character up. Timing is everything in Split Masters, as your character must stay balanced to avoid getting knocked out or falling back down to the ground. The game includes a wide variety of unlockable characters as well.
Today only: Unlock both colors and shapes packages free of charge! Simply tap the “Unlock” button on the main screen, and enter the provided passcode to confirm your action. Various amounts of cards will appear on the screen face down. Your child can tap on them to reveal what’s on the flip side. They must then find all of the matching pairs of shapes and colors to complete each game. When tapped on, your child is able to hear the object or color pronounced. The app also includes a Show Me mode where the cards are all face up, making it easier to play.

Apple on Thursday updated its App of the Week promotion with the app Night Sky 4. This means that for the next 7 days, you can get the popular astronomy app for both iPhone and iPad for free—saving you a solid buck.
Night Sky 4 is pitched as the most advanced and beautiful stargazing app ever created. With it you can identify stars, planets, constellations and satellites above simply by holding your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch to the sky.
From the App Store Editors’ Notes:
This planetarium in your pocket makes it easy to discover the wonders of space wherever you go. Day or night, just aim your device skyward to see a live 3D map of the heavens, complete with beautifully illustrated constellations, stars, planets, and satellites. A special night mode helps you read the map in the dark, while integrated weather reports show the best times for stargazing. You can even have notifications alert you to future astronomical events.
