Triller is Challenging TikTok to be King of the Social Video Hill

July 30, 2020 by RSS Feed

Reviewed by Jimbo

Sharing important moments and events via social media is not only fun but more and more it’s necessary. For many it’s the only way to stay connected with family and friends.

For some, it’s the only way to build your brand and social following. Of course there are well-established platforms that are now at the top of the heap, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.

But the ground may be shifting and we may be witnessing a changing of the guard. There is an upstart app breathing down TikTok’s neck and could very well fly right by.

Triller is an innovative new iPhone social video platform app that gives users a whole new way to quickly create slick looking videos and music videos.

Developed by Triller, LLC, the app features an incredibly easy way to create awesome videos, and a cool new way to share important moments with friends, family, and the world.

Concept and Functionality:

In the world of social media, few are leaders, most are followers. Let’s face it, if the celebs you follow are not on a sharing platform you probably won’t be there either. On the other hand, if those who you crave to know everything about are posting on it, you’ll soon be there too.

In the case of Triller, they have a huge head start with achieving escape velocity because of the notable names who make use of their app. It remains to be seen if they stay with it, but for now, at least, you can track the goings-on of Chance the Rapper, Justin Bieber, Rae Sremmurd, Rita Ora, Kevin Hart, TikTok stars Josh Richards, Noah Beck, and many more.

Add to that the privacy concerns about using TikTok and we may very well be witnessing a perfect storm of factors that will combine to get this puppy into orbit. BTW, you may ask, “aren’t they all the same?”. Well, no. Triller tells you right up front that they collect usage info and you can modify that in Settings.

Features:

Triller iPhone App

As far as usability goes, we love how easy to navigate, and put really cool videos together, especially for first time users. Setting up the app is a breeze.

We’re also quite impressed that you don’t have to even register to begin enjoying content. Of course, as you’d expect, you do have to register using Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, your phone number or an email address to see your friend’s videos. We love the flexibility here!

If you prefer music videos, just tap the music symbol and you’ll see lots to choose from.

You can also quickly see what’s hot by checking out the “Leaderboard”, “Active” or any trending hashtags such as “#BLM”.

Getting your creative projects out there is as easy as hitting the “plus” sign to begin your own social videos or music videos.

Triller comes with plenty of awesome features to make your videos even more awesome. It will do a lot for you and, as you might expect, that can be a double-edged sword.

Putting together a video that your friends will enjoy is about as easy as it can be but with all that power comes a restriction on your ability to control every aspect of it.

For example, it’s super simple to add music via Apple Music and that’s great, as long as the music you want to add is there. Plus, Triller controls what part of the song is used, you don’t have the ability to fine tune the segment you want.

Value:

Triller is available to download from the App Store for free and is designed for iPhone.

Overall, Triller is a fantastic social video network that offers incredibly easy ways to create and share videos and music videos with friends, family, and more.

Triller requires iOS 11.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Calendar.AI is a Must-Have Productivity App for iPhone

July 27, 2020 by RSS Feed

Reviewed by Sarah Hanlon

As a result of recent events with the pandemic, chances are you’re either working from home completely, part-time, or interacting with others who have to work remotely.

Not only does this pose challenges as far as setting up a home office, but it can be tricky to keep track of everyone when being together in an office is no longer a viable option for your team.

Calendar.AI is an extremely feature-rich and easy-to-use calendar and appointment scheduling app for iPhone and iPad.

By integrating multiple calendars into one and providing key info about meeting attendees, it makes prepping for meetings, keeping track of events and coordinating with disparate co-workers and team members a breeze.

Developed by Sync.ME LTD, this is definitely something you should try if calendars and appointments are an important part of your professional life.

Concept and Functionality 5/5

On the surface, Calendar.AI looks pretty similar to many other calendar apps that are available. You can clearly see days of the week, as well as navigate between months.

Naturally this is very important for a free calendar app because the last thing you want to have to do is spend time trying to find the right day to set your appointment.

One of the cool things you can do with Calendar.AI is give events and meetings specific tags so you can easily keep them organized. Once integrated into your company, you can even view valuable insights on employees and the companies you’re meeting with, helping you to stay informed.

Calendar.AI even allows you to integrate with various meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Skype, Zoom, and Google Meet. Considering the new reality we’re adapting to as far as more people working remotely, this is an invaluable addition to the app and makes it a very powerful professional tool.

Features 5/5

Calendar.AI iPhone App

Almost every email client features some sort of integrated calendar, which means if you have multiple email accounts, then chances are you have multiple calendars. Calendar.AI offers the ability to combine as many calendar accounts as you need into one single calendar so you can keep track of everything in one place.

Beyond just telling you what’s coming up, Calendar.AI provides you with a complete overview of who you are meeting with including their employment background (did you work at the same company a few years ago?), social postings (do you share a passion?) , and photos.

Plus, for those times when you do have to actually meet someone in person, the weather forecast in also provided.

Another feature that sets Calendar.AI apart from other calendar apps is the option to organize meetings. You can set up a personalized schedule to show others the hours and days that you’re available, and you can share this using a link that’s generated within the app.

Value 5/5

Calendar.AI is available to download from the App Store for free, but there are options to upgrade depending on the size of your company.

From what I could tell, the only limits between the free version and subscription plans are the number of insights you can access for employees and companies. If you choose to upgrade, the plans are Premium for $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year and Pro for $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year.

Overall, Calendar.AI is a powerful business productivity tool that goes well beyond traditional calendar apps to give you the insights you need to be as productive as possible.

I highly recommend trying it if you’re working remotely and you need a new way to handle meetings and events.

Calendar.AI requires iOS 12.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Wink Sends Demand to Users: Pay $5 a Month or We'll Disable Your Smart Home Hub.

July 24, 2020 by macjeff

Ransomware?  We think so!!!

The Wink Hub which was sold at stores like Lowes was never as good as the competitors.  I would rank the ISY from Universal-Devices as the best SmartHome hub on the market followed by the SmartThings hub by Samsung.  Sorry Apple- I can’t even list HomeKit in the top 10.  I bought a Wink Hub years ago to control a smart bank that Santa brought my kids that only worked with Wink.  I also purchased a smart egg tray (no laughing) that would not only tell you when you were out of eggs but which ones were the oldest to be sure they were used first.   Well both those products no longer function so my hub is useless.

Wink claimed on the box there would be no fees.   Now, they are blackmailing their customers with a notice to pay up by July 27th or we will cut off your service.   The company claims in the small print, hidden so no one would ever read it, “Wink reserves the right to interrupt the Services with or without prior notice for any reason or no reason” and that Wink has the right “to change and/or eliminate any aspect(s) of the Services as it sees fit in its sole discretion.”   We, along with many others, feel that what they are doing is way beyond the scope of changing their services. This is basically a Ransomware for the people who bought their products.

Pay $5 a month ransom or we will stop your product we promised no hidden costs from working.
We can’t tell you what to do, but I can tell you my Wink Hub went into the trash a week ago and I will invest my money into the ISY from Universal-Devices .   In addition to Insteon, Z-Wave, and Zigsbee support, they have been hard at work creating links (over 80 right now) to other SmartHome products like swimming pools, smart irrigation valves, and Roomba vacuums to their system,  More devices seem to pop up every week.   Invest your money in something that works and has potential to grow and not a system that has already reached its limits.

Your iPhone is Awesome, Keep it That Way

The 3 Best Apps For A Healthy iPhone TheiPhoneAppReview.com

We don’t have to tell you that your iPhone is an incredible piece of hardware and software ingenuity. When you first got it and turned it on it was at its peak of capability.

Of course as time went on you used it every day, recharged it every night, loaded and deleted apps, as well as loaded and didn’t delete apps that you haven’t used in a long time, and will very likely never use again, and maybe even dropped it a few times.

There’s not much to be done for any physical scratches and scuffs, although if the screen needs replacing that can be relatively easily done. But what about performance issues?

We here at TheiPhoneAppReview.com have extremely close relationships with out idevices, probably to an unhealthy level, but let’s not get into that, and we are always looking for the best ways to keep them in tip-top shape.

You can do a lot to maintain the performance of your iPhone and iPad, recover functionality that may be on the fritz, and otherwise take the best care possible to make sure it works as it should.

Here are the absolute 3 best iPhone apps that will help you maintain your iPhone for many days and years to come.

TestX: protection, diagnostics – (Free) – System checker & analyzer

The TestX app is a star player in the must-have category of diagnostics for anyone who is serious about maintaining the proper functioning of their iPhone.

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about the various sensors and capabilities of your device, either as a method of improving it, or just because you’re curious about it all, this is a great app to get you started on the right track.

Whether you’ve been neglecting your iPhone for years without any specific complaint, or something just stopped working the way it always had, this app will help you get to the bottom of what’s going on.

The diagnostic tests are extremely simple to run. You can opt for a Quick Scan or a Full Scan (we recommend the later if you haven’t done one before) or select specific tests to exercise different capabilities of your phone.

One of the best features of this app is that with one tap you can create a full report of the results for the tests that you’ve run along with a full description of your iPhone.

This is not only very handy for the owner, of course, but it can be a great way to verify the quality of your phone when you are trying to sell it so you can upgrade to the newest one available.

TestM – Check phone & Report – (Free) – Test, Buy & Sell Phones

It’s no secret that we’re all quite protective of our devices. Let’s face it, they do a lot for us and we depend on them for an ever increasing part of our day-to-day lives.

So what do you do when you’re ready for the newest model and you want to sell the one you have but the device seems sluggish, some part of it just doesn’t work right?

Maybe you just want the peace of mind knowing that when you do see it, it passed a thorough battery of tests with flying colors.

TestM’s focus is all about selling your iPhone and, in preparation for that, either verifying it’s in great shape or helping you get it to a condition that will net you the most return.

In fact, “Find Repair Shops” is one option in the left side pop out menu.

It’s simple to use and includes a broad array of tests that you can run individually or as a group.

Like TestX it will also create a report that includes a full description of your iPhone.

At the bottom of the report result screen there’s also a button to share the report with your buyer making the whole process quite simple and easy.

One of the best things about this app is that it makes it very easy to find a repair shop.

If it doesn’t find one right around you, you can do a search for a city nearby.

Phone Doctor Plus – (Free) – Test, monitor, trade-in

For anyone who wants to see at a glance with just one tap what the status of your iPhone is, you can’t do better than Phone Doctor Plus.

Once you tap “Status” you’ll see six categories with a summary status for each.

You can then tap a category to drill down to more specific info.

There is lots to see and you will definitely get great info about your phone, it’s detailed specifications, as well as info about all of its capabilities.

At some points, however, you’re left guessing. For example, if you drill down into “CPU”, you see how much of your total cpu capacity is currently in use, and you also get a readout for all the cores on any multi-core iPhone.

But it also says “not done yet” for both single-core and multi-core while showing results. So what exactly isn’t done yet?

The distinguishing feature of this app is that it will let you login to get a trade-in price for your iPhone.

We can’t attest to whether or not it’s a fair offer, but at least it’s one data point as you try to determine what a good price is and whether or not you really want to sell it.

Parler is the Latest Social Media Darling

June 30, 2020 by RSS Feed

Reviewed by Jimbo

Connecting with people is incredibly easy thanks to social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Hangouts, Instagram, and many more that are less popular.

So how does a social media app actually get popular enough that it’s a go-to app for those looking to hang out and chat with like-minded individuals who share your interests? Afterall, what good is a social media app if those you want to connect with aren’t using it?

This is what you might call a “chicken and egg” problem and cracking it is not easy or inevitable.

Parler is a well-designed and easy-to-use app that makes connecting with those you know, as well as new like-minded people, quick and simple.

However it did it, Parler is on the way to reach escape velocity to become a verifiable winner.

Concept and Functionality:

Signing up for Parler, a free app by Parler, LLC, is incredibly easy – all you need is an email address and a phone number. We were a bit disappointed to see that a phone number was required, but if you touch the ? next to the phone number field, Parler explains that they only use your number to authenticate your account and add a second layer of security.

An interesting aspect of Parler is that it actually bills itself as a News app and, in fact, it’s rated #1 in the News category of the App Store.

The app description says that it’s a “non-biased, free speech social media focused on protecting user’s rights”. We’re not sure that unrestricted commentary is the same a “news” but it does give people a place to sound off.

Getting up and running with Parler is easy. You’re not grilled with questions so you can be matched with the “perfect” people or topics to follow; just select any people or hashtags that you find interesting and you’ll be able to see their comments and share in the conversation.

Features:

Parler iPhone App

Parler makes it easy to see what topics are top-of-mind with its users. You can opt to see what “Partners” or “Affiliates” are posting just by tapping those headings.

By tapping the envelope icon in the upper right or swiping in from the right you access a “Private Messages” panel.

Once you do post something, it’s quite easy to add a photo to your comment. Unfortunately while adding a gif is easy, changing your mind is less so. If you select “Giphy” to add a gif to your comment and then decide not to use one, the “back” button doesn’t work, at least on an iPhone X, so you have to kill the app and start over.

If you tap on the magnifying glass on the right side of the bottom panel, you’ll see users or hashtags that you can follow.

Right now it seems much of the commentary is somewhat USA-political centric and conservative within that, even though one of the hashtags you can follow is #ParlerUK.

Even under #Apple you’ll see comments about the politics of tech companies, but that seems to be one of the big appealing aspects of Parler, that you can sound off about anything you like, or don’t like.

We were disappointed to see many users post completely unrelated ideological messages in hashtags so, for example, under the #bitcoin you see comments about Covid-19, Jesus Saves and a variety of fringe political rants.

Value:

Parler is available to download for free from the App Store.

Overall, we highly recommend Parler if you’re looking to chat with new people and talk about things you have in common.

It’s a great app that definitely has freedom of speech (within reasonable limits) in mind, and, in addition to being a top news app, will no doubt be a top social networking app very soon.

requires iOS 10.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
