Phantom Blade: Executioners, the upcoming ARPG from S-Game, opens Closed Beta Test sign-ups on Android

December 28, 2021 by RSS Feed

Featuring stylish visuals and heart-stopping action, Phantom Blade: Executioners invites players back into the world of "Kungfupunk" this month. S-Game's action-packed ARPG is opening sign-ups for the game's Closed Beta Test from 12/28/2021 to 1/10/2022, with lots of in-game goodies and two heroes to experience.

Phantom Blade: Executioners is the latest installment of the Phantom Blade franchise. Eager players who wish to get first dibs on the game can simply sign up for the CBT on the official Facebook and Twitter channels and fill out the form. The lucky few who get picked will receive an email with a download link for the CBT that'll start in January.

A descendant of the Mo clan, Soul offers players both agility and attack power with his Dark Raider and Infernal Blade advanced forms. Mu Xiaokui, on the other hand, is a speed-focused DPS or tank unit whose Jade Dancer and Iron Princess advanced forms can turn the tide of battle in your favour in a pinch. Both heroes are available to use during the CBT.

Phantom Blade: Executioners will launch worldwide on PC, Android and iOS in 2022, and will also feature support for cross-platform play on PS4/PS5.

148Apps Game of the Year 2021

December 27, 2021 by RSS Feed

Continuing the trend begun last year, I wanted to model some Game of the Year awards through categories in addition to simply ranking my personal favorites. Between now and the dawn of 2022, I'll be updating this page regularly with new entries for each category, so make sure to check in and see what titles win which awards.

The Categories

  • Best Old Game
  • Best Streaming Game
  • Best Music
  • Best Style
  • Best Multiplayer
  • Best Story
  • Best Game

For each of these categories, I'll choose a winner and mention some notable runner-ups. Any game nominated or chosen for any of these cateories is then eligible for the final category, Best Game, which is the culminating category where I will construct a ranked list of my favorite games from this year.

Best Old Game

Genshin Impact

Since Genshin Impact's launch, I have played the game every single day. For those counting, that is over 450 consecutive days of playing the same game. Part of the reason for this is the drip feed of premium currency that is part of miHoYo's strategy to monetize its players, but a large part of why that is fine with me (and I keep coming back) is because the world of Teyvat is huge, bountiful, and fun to be in. Beyond the game's surprisingly great main story, there's also always something new getting added game, ensuring you always have something to look forward to. I'm no stranger to gacha games and the way they string people along, but my enthusiasm for 2020's Game of the Year hasn't waned much--if at all--through the duration of 2021, making it the easy top choice for best old game.

Runner Ups: Good Sudoku, Night in the Woods, Alto's Odyssey: The Lost City

Everything you need to know about the new Alchemy Stars Event, Sands of Time

December 27, 2021 by RSS Feed

A favorite game of many, Alchemy Stars, is now celebrating the winter holidays with a new event that introduces new Aurorians and summon mechanics to the game. The popular tile-based RPG went big on the event, featuring not only a new standard event, but also tons of log in rewards and even a mini quiz event.

In this article, you can find everything you need to know about the Sands of Time event in the game, which is currently underway.

The Sands of Time Event

Part one: December 23 - January 10

The first part of the event, Northland Journey, starts on December 23, and is a classical event which uses event-exclusive Action Points. One Action Point recovers every four hours, and players can store a maximum of 30 AP.

Part two: December 28 - January 10

The second part, Trial of the Aurora, is just like Northland Journey, but it has slightly more challenging stages that become available on December 28th. This part of the event will feature exclusive character backstories, for the new Aurorians in the game: Bethlehem, Novio, and Lola.

Once a player has cleared all these event stages, they will be rewarded with 2000 Lumamber and 2 Special Star Flares.

Lake Mirror Codeword

Running from: January 4 - January 13

This is a minigame that will test the game knowledge of each Navigator. Every single day, a new question will become available, and players have 3 tries to get it right. By answering 7 daily questions correctly, players will earn an additional 420 Lumamber!

The Cedar Market

Running from: December 23 - January 13

Each time a player completes a stage of the event, they will earn an event exclusive currency, Mistletoe. The Mistletoe (event currency) collected during the event can be exchanged in the Cedar Market for rewards such as Special Star Flares, furniture, Aurorian breakthrough materials, and a new free unit, Lola as well as her Solambers.

Lola will only be available via the Cedar Market, so if you plan on expanding your Aurorian collection, make sure you don’t miss your chance!

New Login Rewards

Running from: December 23 - January 10

By simply logging into the game during the event, players will earn the following rewards:

  • On Day 1 : Mistletoe ×500, General Jasper II ×5
  • On Day 2: Lumamber ×100, Nightium ×5,000
  • On Day 3: Mistletoe ×1,000, Recharger Pack ×1
  • On Day 4: Lumamber ×200, Anonymous Gift I ×3
  • On Day 5: 5-Star Aurorian Robyn, Nightium ×10,000
  • On Day 6: Chromera ×5, Recharger Pack ×2
  • On Day 7: Mistletoe ×2,000, Anonymous Gift I ×4
  • On Day 8: Lumamber ×500, Queen's Astonishment (exclusive event avatar) ×1

Additional login rewards

Running from: January 6 - January 13

Even more rewards will be available to players who log in and reach 60 Activity Points between January 6 and January 13, which grant them an additional 600 Lumamber and Aurorian upgrade materials.

New Aurorian outfits

All throughout the event, a number of new outfits for some player-favourite Aurorians will also become available. These outfits are:

  • The Stoic Coachman outfit (Nails) - obtained from 1 Free Special Event Book
  • Night to Remember outfit (Areia) - obtained from 1 Paid Special Event Book
  • Mirror Mirror outfit (Victoria) - obtained from the in-game store
  • Naughty or Nice outfit (Gronru) - obtained from the Christmas Discount Pack

Revamped recruiting mechanics

Navigators who aim to summon a specific, featured 6-Star Aurorian will now have an easier time, since the gacha mechanics have been revamped. Each 2 summons that result in a non-featured 6-star Aurorian, will add up to the pity gacha, and the 3rd summon (the next one) that results in a 6-star Aurorian, will grant a guaranteed featured unit.

Special Event Book Phase 4

Players who have completed stage 1-16 of the Main Story, now have access to the Special Event Book Phase 4, being able to unfold even more of their favourite Aurorians’ stories.

Best Wind characters in World Flipper

December 23, 2021 by RSS Feed

World Flipper is one of the most engaging RPGs available right now. It has anime-like characters that you get from gacha to form a team of powerful units before playing pinball!

Wind is one of the six elements in World Flipper. Wind characters are used often in teams as they lend the team ‘levitate’ ability. Some Wind units like Kamaitachi and Owlbert can be obtained for free while others, like Murakumo, can be unlocked through certain boss battles.

World Flipper: Best Wind Units

Here are some of the best Wind units in World Flipper that you can add to your Wind comp!

1. Soushiro

With 540 Gauge, Soushiro is probably the preferred Wind unit and can also lead your team. Her Slipstream Cloudrend is a powerful attack that strikes enemies from all directions. When in the lead position, Soushiro - with Hikoboshi’s Wish - lends 30% more Skill Gauge to Wind units and 80% more Skill Damage.

2. Celtie

Celtie is another popular and sought-after Wind character. Her special skill is ‘Enlil Reincarnate’, which sees her sweep her blade and deal heavy wind damage. The damage continues increasing with higher combos. Celtie has a base gauge of 340. If you put her in the lead, she will buff your attack by 60% (if your combo is more than 10). For combos that are less than 10, Celtie buffs attack by 40%.

3. Phiria

With 500 Gauge, Phiria is one of the strongest Wind characters in World Flipper. Phiria’s special ability is Sylphiria Breeze, which restores HP to the team and lends the ‘levitate’ ability. As the leader, Phiria grants a 115% attack buff when ally HP is over 60%.

Aurore, Sha Suzu, and Arisa are some other Wind characters that can be a part of your Wind comp. World Flipper is available for free on Google Play and App Store.

The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War lets you decorate Hobbiton's Yule Tree, set off fireworks, and more this holiday season

December 22, 2021 by RSS Feed

The midsummer holiday called Lithe isn't the only major holiday in the Shire - the six-day Yuletide period is just as joyous, which is why The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is holding five in-game events this season. NetEase's officially licensed title is adding special puzzles, new content, and a bunch of hidden treasure to boot.

The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is not only treating players to special gifts from visiting Commanders every day they go online, but rewards from Bilbo's riddle challenge are also up for grabs. Lords must simply try to get ten bingo rewards to nab a special Bilbo Riddle bonus this Yule Festival.

Of course, the season won't be complete without some fireworks that players can set off in their territories. The giant Yule Tree in Hobbiton is also in need of decors, so you can use your decoration tickets to spruce it up and make a wish.

To top it all off, Lords can try to unlock the Yule Collection treasure map to score valuable rewards hidden deep in the mountains of Eregion. If you're ready to join in on all the festivities,

The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is available to download on the iOS App Store, on the Google Play Store and the Galaxy Store for Android devices. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
